Children of all ages are welcome at Kambaku River Sands, however, accommodations at the River Sands Lodge are suitable for guests aged 12 and up only. Families with younger children are encouraged to consider booking accommodations at the Safari Lodge.

Entrance Fees

As Kambaku River Sands is located within the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve, guests are required to pay entrance fees to access the reserve. These fees contribute to the conservation efforts and maintenance of the reserve, ensuring the protection of its wildlife and natural habitats. The entrance fees are typically included in the overall accommodation rate.

Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit Kambaku River Sands in the Timbavati is during the dry season, which typically falls between May and September. During this time, vegetation is sparse, making wildlife easier to spot as they gather around water sources. Additionally, cooler temperatures make for more comfortable game drives and outdoor activities.

• Keep noise to a minimum to avoid disturbing the animals and fellow guests.
• Refrain from standing up or leaning out of the vehicle while it is in motion.
• Avoid sudden movements or loud noises that could startle the wildlife.
• Always maintain a safe distance from the animals and never attempt to approach them for a closer look or photo opportunity.
• Remember to respect the natural environment and leave only footprints behind.

Getting to Kambaku River Sands Lodge

The Timbavati Private Nature Reserve is on the western boundary of the Kruger National Park, extending over the two provinces of Mpumalanga and Limpopo province. Access to the reserve is possible by air or road travel.

The GPS coordinates for Enkhulu Gate are -24.349833°S; 31.157201°E and the lodge 24° 21’ 56.4″South 31°15’50.1″East.

By Air

Guests can enjoy the luxury of flying into the nearest airport, the Hoedspruit Eastgate Airport (30km from Kambaku) direct from Johannesburg or from Cape Town and be collected at the airport and transported to the lodge (not included in the daily rate).

Alternatively, one can fly into Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport in Nelspruit (120 km from Kambaku) on daily flights. Specially chartered flights can be arranged on request.

By Road

From OR Tambo International Airport one heads for eMalahleni (Witbank) on the N12 highway, which becomes the N4. Continue on the N4 and take the Belfast turn-off, heading for Dullstroom and next to Lydenburg.

From Lydenburg one follows the R36 towards Ohrigstad and Hoedspruit, from where you take the R40 south for approximately 6 km before you turn left on the Timbavati / Eastgate Airport road. Pass through a control gate and continue for roughly 18 km to the Timbavati Nature Reserve Gate. Once in the reserve Follow the Kambaku River Sands signs to the lodge.

By Road from Nelspruit, you follow the R40 past White River and continue to Hazyview, Bushbuckridge and Acornhoek past the Orpen road turnoff, until you turn right at the Hoedspruit turn-off. Continue on this road and turn right at the Timbavati/ Eastgate Airport road. You will go through a control gate and then head for the Timbavati Nature Reserve Gate about 18 km further. Once through the reserve gate, you will find the sign board for the lodge approximately 10km further.
